Song of the Rohingya ....poème de L'Angelle pour l'Amérique ou le buste

Rohingyas once meant the word Moslems in Burmese
they lived a peaceful life and did what they please
then soldiers came and rohingyas soon meant refugees
They fled across the border and learned Bengalese.

Rohingyas by the thousands live in the camp of Kutupalong
they arrived most wearing only sandals and  sarong
they swam across the Naf, weak carried by the strong
to a land where the natives only spoke in diphthong.

in kutu with a food card that can buy up to thirteen
items from potato to leaf that is green,
with rice and sugar and semoline
শুকনো মাছ এবং মরিচ round out the cuisine.

The camp is flooded every year by the monsoon
what once was dry land becomes a muddy lagoon
it doesn't stop raining and flooding when it starts in June
and doesn't end until the অক্টোবর পূর্ণিমা.

rohingya have tried sailing away in leaky boats
a fitting end for ironies and anecdotes
or filling up prose with promising quotes
by a poet whose life he devotes

to making sense out of hunger and sorrow by rhyme and refrain
about refugees cast overboard in the rain
but rohingya we are, all of us as it is at once germane
to drown in the Bay of bengal out on some sea lane.

On Asylum, In 2019 ..... poème de L'Angelle pour l'Amérique ou le buste

      On Asylum, In 2019    L'Angelle

By Rosario's mercado and Juanita's taqueria
the mission was last before Caravan Migrante.
Hitching rides on trucks, not on La Bestia
Walking with family in prayer and silent.

Try to forget, it is nobody's fault
con el niño a la espalda or in stroller.
The sun burned our feet on the black asphalt
a thousand miles north toward the border

At the wall our children were tear gassed
some drowned in the river when we crossed.
Arrested we waited as days and months passed
we tried not to remember the friends we had lost.

We pleaded for freedom from incarceration
from conditions condemned inhumane.
Niños tomados to another location
adding to our misery and pain

As we live day to day, life grows bitter
politicians see us drink toilet water.
They go back home and play with their Twitter
then bribe some college to admit their daughter

Now they turn down our application
and shout "Go back to where you came from!"
They think we are here on summer vacation
when all we wanted was asylum.

Thought Provoking Stuff, by JC L'Angelle, (C) 2019 amérique ou buste

Thought Provoking Stuff, by JC L'Angelle, (C) 2019 amérique ou buste

I just can't recite anything off the cuff,
Most of what I write isn't thought provoking stuff.
If there's  one thing I cannot stress enough
Is my lack of talent to write thought provoking stuff.
There's just a mental hangup for writing something deep,
Every time I try I want to fall to sleep.

Don't look into this poetry for some hidden theme,
Or a revelation from a recent dream.
Leave it those who are divinely inspired,
Thought provoking stuff just makes me tired.
Becoming a great poet is something I would consider,
If I didn't have a hang up for being such a quitter.

Or being called a marshmallow or a creampuff
For writing thought provoking stuff.
Take it from a man who's been around the block,
I'm not big on writing or even casual talk.
So please don't upset me or make me distraught,
By making me write stuff that provokes thought.

Rene Descartes once said; "I think therefore I am,"
But I don't understand that dithyramb.
Maybe it makes sense to Socrates,
As far as I'm concerned it's written in Chinese.
If I were to have a class in poetry,
There is something I would guarantee,

I'd be forced to drop out of society
Because it doesn't mean anything to me.
So if you're looking for some clever rhyme,
Don't look to me for I just don't have the time.
I'm not here to fill the world full of fluff,
By filling up the universe with thought provoking stuff.
